How do I check if ChatGPT recommends my business?
Ask ChatGPT the questions your customers would ask, in their words and with your area, using a logged-out or temporary chat. Repeat the same questions in Gemini and Google, and note who is named each time. Do this monthly with the same wording so you can see real change.

Short answer above. Last updated 27 October 2026 by the Trusted Media team.
Step by step
Write five buyer questions
Write the questions a new customer would ask before choosing a business like yours, in their words. Include your service and area, for example “Who are the best commercial solicitors in Peterborough?”.
Use a clean session
Use a temporary or logged-out chat so past conversations do not shape the answer. Do not mention your own business name in the question.
Ask in three places
Ask each question in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google (noting any AI overview at the top). Perplexity is a useful fourth.
Record the results
For each answer, note whether you are named, where in the list, which competitors are named, and any sources or links shown.
Check what it says about you
Ask directly “What do you know about [your business]?” and check the facts: services, location, contact details. Wrong facts point to inconsistent information online.
Repeat monthly
Run the same questions on roughly the same day each month. Answers vary from day to day, so look for patterns over several checks, not one result.
The honest limits
This gives you a fair snapshot, not a ranking. AI answers vary between sessions, locations and tool versions, and nobody can see or control the full picture. Treat a single result as a clue, and a pattern over several months as evidence.

Be the business the answer points to
Clear facts, plain answers and genuine reviews give AI assistants a reason to name you, and give buyers a reason to call.
Frequently Asked Questions
AI assistants generate each answer fresh and can draw on different sources. That is why the same questions, asked regularly, tell you more than any single answer.
Being named at all is the first goal. Position within a short list matters less than whether the description of your business is accurate.
Some tools automate it, but a manual check with five good questions is enough for most businesses to see where they stand.
